![]() In the month of February we celebrate Black History Month. It is a way of honoring the contributions that black people have made throughout history. This month it is important to reflect on the impact Black History has made and learn how to become a better accomplice to the black community. Now here are some black figures everyone should know about. First there is Diane Nash. She is a woman who helped start desegregation in the US and often demonstrated her passion for civil rights in her everyday life. There is also Olive Morris. She was a community organizer in South London in the 1970’s. She organized multiple protests and was the co-founder of the Brixton Black Women's Group and frequently challenged authority. Some other amazing people were Bessie Coleman, the first African American and first Native American to hold an international pilot's license. And finally Shirley Chisholm, the first black woman elected to US Congress. These are just some examples of people we recognize and celebrate this month but I strongly urge you to do more research and learn more about Black History on your own. Happy Black History Month! Xoxo Stephanie
