Reflecting on Our Volleyball and Football Intramurals

This week was the end of our CVC Football and Volleyball Intramurals. I wanted to know what the students' favorite part was and what they learned. Trisha Ynalvez, an Eighth Grader is a talented player on the Football team. She said,”My favorite part of football is being able to be part of a team and something I learned is you need to talk to your teammates for something to actually work.” Camila Gonzalez was a part of the Volleyball team and she said,”My favorite part of volleyball was interacting with everyone. When we would play games I would feel everyone's connection. I also love the shirts and free gatorade.  And something I learned was how to do proper rotations and positions.” On November 13, 2021 we had our Football and Volleyball teams participate in the Turkey Bowl at Nellie N. Coffman. Volleyball won both of their games and Football’s Team A is going to the Championships. Team B did their best. As someone who was a part of Volleyball I can say that I have learned a lot and improved my overall skills. I loved being a part of the team and feeling the support from my teammates and coaches. I would like to say thank you to Coach Flo, Coach Natalia, Starlah Gutierrez, Mr Amrine, and Mr Estrada for dedicating your time to making us better athletes and creating a positive environment for us to grow. This has been an amazing opportunity and highly encourage everyone to participate next time!

A Week Off

11/16/2021

As a middle schooler, I need this week off. I feel like each and everyone of us does need this upcoming week to recollect and get themselves together before the next trimester begins.

My family aren’t big
celebrators of Thanksgiving but we do celebrate.
Most of the time, we have a Thanksgiving Dinner and have family members over, the rest of the week is just mainly chilling and catching up on some work for my classes.

Even for those who don’t celebrate, this coming week will be a great time for you and your family to get together and relax.

My question is though,
What do you guys do for Thanksgiving or if you don’t celebrate, what are you thankful for this year?

Whatever you decide to do this upcoming week, enjoy yourselves because you guys deserve it, take care!

Dune Movie Review

One of the most popular movies this year is, Dune. If I’m being honest I think it attracted a lot of people for the actors in the film. Not only does it have Zendaya, Jason Mamoa, but also everyone's favorite Timothee Chalamet. They are some of my favorite actors so it was no surprise that I enjoyed Dune immensely. If you didn’t know already, Dune takes place in an intergalactic feudal society and follows Paul Atreicles, a gifted young man, who must travel to dangerous planets in the universe to protect his and his people's future.  Dune is only one out of two parts so this movie consists mostly of world building, introduction to the politics, and characters. Some of the things I enjoyed were the amazing cinematography, foreshadowing, buildup, and the relationships the characters have. It is one of those types of films where you sympathize with the characters and root for them. If you enjoy sci-fi movies like Interstellar or Star Wars I recommend you give this movie a watch. I rate it a 9/10. What do you think?                                                                      Xoxo Stephanie

Middle School Erie Carnival

This Friday we had the first dance of the year! The theme was Erie Carnival. I had the opportunity of being part of the setup because I’m in Student Council so I gotta see it all before everyone arrived. We had games, a photo booth, a dj, pizza, chips, and drinks. A fun fact is we actually ordered 70 pizzas for the dance and there were a bunch of full pizza boxes left over. So if you liked the pizza maybe next time you would be able to take a full box home. While dancing in the middle with my friends there were people throwing water but if I’m being honest that might have added to the fun. I also saw some throwing money early into the dance and others picking it up! I mean who would be desperate enough to pick up the money…. Anyways, overall I think the dance went pretty well. Everyone seemed to have a good time and there was no unnecessary drama. And I say that because there were rumors of something happening between two very well known girls and a boy in the middle of it all. But that was all that it was, a rumor. Now I want to know. What was your favorite part of the dance, and what do you want to see at the next one?

A Dance?

11/3/2021

Okay, so let’s get this straight...the Middle School Dance will be happening on Friday this week. Many middle students around school continuously bring up the topic of, ‘Who's going to the dance?, ‘Who are you taking to the dance? And, ‘What even is the dance?’
This week's I, Kirsten will be interviewing some students on their opinion about the dance this upcoming week.
7th grader, Jacob Macias shares his point of view about the dance, “I think that this year’s dance is gonna be fun. It’ll be cool as my first dance, at least I HOPE that it’ll be fun and cool.”
Another 7th grader, Daniella M. Reynose explains what the dance means to her, “Uh, I think this coming dance is [going to be] well because it’s the first time all the Middle Schoolers can get together and do stuff. Also we can dance and hang out with friends.” Daniella then shares more throughout the interview as well.
One final 7th Grader, Daniel Munoz has a different opinion on the dance, “I think it’s gonna be a bit awkward ‘cause a lot of people ask each other out. And it’s gonna be awkward because we’re in 7th grade and I don’t think there’s gonna be any music anyone’s gonna be dancing to.”
There are many opinions about the upcoming dance but only a few will know what it’s like if they do attend it! As a reminder, today is the last day to purchase tickets and hope to see you go!

Hi my name is Stephanie, and I am the Friday Author. I’m in the 8th grade and a part of Student Council and Volleyball. I am so excited to begin writing and share my point of view on different subjects surrounding my life as an 8th grader. Not only that but I also hope to highlight some other people’s voices around campus. Some of the things you might see me write about include school drama, reading, movie reviews, school advice, and more. So with that being said I hope to hear some of your ideas on what you would like to see in the future.

Welcome to the First Word. A blog where you, CVC Eagles, can get the latest tea about the school, information about events and our opinions about our side of these stories. I’m Kirsten, one of the authors of the First Word. I’m in the 7th Grade and currently a part of the volleyball program. Most 6th Graders may know I have a younger sister, Khleo. I possibly have some of the weirdest friend groups on earth and yes, I’m Asian.
Throughout this blog you, CVC Eagles, can recommend what you would like us to write about. Every Wednesday and Friday a new story will be posted for your liking. I will post on Wednesdays and Stephanie will post on Fridays.
Remember...DON’T DO DRUGS!
