You can ask plenty of other competitors who were at track and they’ll either tell the truth or lie about how they felt. It’s the idea of having other people watching you and competing against people you’ve never met and wondering how fast or excellent they are at an event.
If I’m being honest, when you’re running, you honestly can’t remember anything, like literally, you can’t. It’s just like you tell yourself to run and before you know it, you’re at the finish line. That’s how it felt when I competed for 100 meters and when my teams and I competed for the relay race.
It was such an honor to be representing all 7th grade girls in our school for the relay race. It really was…but also very stressful. I remember how Jazmine grew quiet, how Nevaeh was nervously smiling or how Alyson was talking constantly. (Probably to divert her mind from running) It’s scary.
I just saw my friends speeding down the track, like it went by so quickly. Before I knew it, Alyson handed me the baton and I was already done with the race. That’s running for ya, you don’t really know what’s going on until you’ve finished the event.
It was a great opportunity to show women empowerment as well during track. It was a great experience to express that women can do anything. They really can, if only given the opportunity to do so.
On a small note, congrats to all the track stars who competed! (And thank you Zaylee for recording some great videos of the Track meet) We did it!
