In the month of March we celebrate Women's History Month. This month we highlight the contributions of women. And before I tell you about these amazing women, I need you to know that if you have a problem with Women’s History Month or ask why there isn’t a month for this, or that. Please get over it. Women have overcome too much and have had their contributions swept under the rug for too long, so respectfully I ask you to stop complaining and get over yourselves.
To start us off I will be talking about Diana, Princess of Wales. Princess Diana is someone loved by many for great reasons. She was a compassionate woman who visited homeless shelters and leprosy wards. She also raised awareness about AIDS and shook hands with them. Her death was devastating for many, but her memory and contributions live on.
Next I will talk about Esther Jones. Many do not know but Esther Jones was the inspiration for Betty Boop. She was an African American jazz singer and entertainer from Harlem and was best known for her unique vocal style that featured “boop-boop-a-doops” and other similar scat sounds. Her Betty Boop character was whitewashed and she never received compensation for the millions her character made. Which is why we must know Esther Jones' name.
The final inspirational woman I will speak about is Malala Yousafzai. Malala is a Pakistani activist who fought for women's education. She strived to give girls the same opportunities as boys and this made her a target. She was shot in the left side of her head, but that didn’t stop her. She continued her work and went on to be the youngest Nobel Peace Prize winner. I recommend reading her book and learning more about her and her story!
I hope that you learned something new from this blog post and share it with your family. Remember to celebrate the women in your life and tell them just how amazing they are. I would also like to shout out Kirsten Geil for her incredible poem. She did a great job and I hope she continues to share her work. Comment below a woman that inspires you in your own life. That's it for this week! Have a great weekend!
