With the 2012-2013 school year underway, Cielo Vista Charter School, the only charter school in the Palm Springs Unified School District (PSUSD), welcomed its newest governing board member Mark Anderson.
Anderson was elected by the school community, consisting of parents, teachers and staff, when the seat by former Nellie Coffman principal Terri Simon became vacant after she moved out of the area.
Anderson was born and raised in Palm Springs and went through the PSUSD system from grade school through high school. Anderson currently has two children attending PSUSD schools and one in a local private school. Anderson was eligible for election to the CVC governing board because he does not have children at the charter school.
Anderson is the founder and owner of the BuzzFactory, an advertising and marketing agency in Palm Springs. A community leader since his return to the valley after graduating from the University of California San Diego with a B.A. in Communications and Visual Arts. Anderson also has a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Redlands.
Anderson currently sits on the Board of the Palm Springs Club, First Tee of Coachella Valley and is a past president of the Palm Springs Chamber of Commerce. Anderson, his wife and children all live in Palm Springs. He enjoys golfing and cycling in his spare time.
Anderson joins David L. Baron, James Cioffi, William G. Kleindienst and Frank Tinney, who was also re-elected to the CVC Board after already serving a two-year term. Cielo Vista Charter is led by principal Lynda Lake, who is also a former teacher at the school and also attended the elementary school as a student before it was a charter.
Cielo Vista was founded in 2010 as a charter school, after running as a traditional public school within the Palm Springs Unified School District since 1952. CVC is a school of choice and presently serves 800 students from the Palm Springs area in grades K-6. The Cielo Vista community strives to create an environment that enhances the social, emotional, and intellectual growth of its students. A sense of unity between school, family, and community exists to enable students to reach their potential as responsible, informed citizens.
