ARTStudents will complete both guided and individual assignments based on the California State Standards for Visual
Arts. Students will work with a wide range of mediums, materials, and styles of art. In addition to the classroom projects students will be expected to complete at least one at home project each trimester. Parents are encouraged to participate. |
Study SkillsThis class will give students who are performing at grade level the time to do homework and recreational reading
within the school day. This will be a self directed period for students who would like to have time to do work with a teacher present to assist them as needed. This class is not required and is an elective. |
InterventionStudents who are far below grade level standards in either Math or ELA based on the SBAC and teacher assessments
will be required to take an intervention class. In this intervention class they will receive one-on-one targeted intervention that speaks to their specific skill deficits. (Maximum of 15 students in the class) |
Spanish IWhy learn Spanish? You will learn an international language,have a better understanding of the world around you,
expand your future, expand your skills in communication. Students who pass with a C or better will get high school credit. Topics in Descubre I include greetings, in the classroom, family, hobbies, vacations, shopping, food and parties. |
Spanish IIPrerequisite: Spanish I or passing of the Spanish Placement Exam. In Spanish II we will expand on the vocabulary, grammar and cultural lessons learned in Spanish I. Students who pass Spanish II with a C or better will meet an A-G requirement before entering high school. Students that continue on the Spanish language pathway will be eligible to get their Seal of Biliteracy and take the AP Spanish IV class in high school. Business of e-SportsThere will be an emphasis on how video games are designed, created, developed, built and written. We will explore the how and why about video games to be able to create our own. Additionally, we will explore the world of streaming and eSports. In this portion we will cover the concepts of game play, strategy for success, streaming, and shoutcasting. The class will produce fully functional streams for various platforms Ex: Twitch/Mixer with commentary. Disclaimer: taking this class can lead to participation on the eSports Team, but they are two separate entities.

students to create authentic artifacts and engage with computer science as a medium for creativity, communication, problem solving, and fun. Computer Science is a highly interactive and collaborative introduction to the field of computer science, as framed within the broader pursuit of solving problems. You’ll practice using a problem solving process to address a series of puzzles, challenges, and real world scenarios. Next, you’ll learn how computers input, output, store, and process information to help humans solve problems. The unit concludes with a project in which you design an application that helps solve a problem of your choosing. |

Environmental Studies & EcologyHave you ever thought that we are not doing enough to help our planet? Are you worried about endangered species, habitat loss, or the threat of climate change? Do you want to know more about how to solve these environmental issues and affect change as a student scientist & activist? This elective will give you the tools to understand the science behind our natural world. Our class will be examining biological life and its relationship with the environment. From our studies, we will be taking actions to help our school and environment. We will also be taking field trips to the Living Desert, Sunnylands Monarch Program, & UC Riverside Palm Desert to learn about and discuss ecological
issues with leading scientists and conservation biologists in the Coachella Valley. The Coachella Valley and CVC Garden will be our outdoor laboratory and we will engage in school-wide projects to help make CVC a Green Ribbon School. Check us out on Facebook! |
Video ProductionVideo Production will promote twenty-first century communication skills through the use of digital storytelling.
Students will participate in a wide variety of project based learning units to develop collaboration, communication, critical thinking and creativity using video production. This class will require students to plan, write, film, and edit videos. Students will create public service announcements (PSA), documentaries and short fictional pieces. Students leaving this class will have a stronger sense of project development and time management as well as the vital communication tools needed to be a successful twenty-first century learner and employee. |
Advanced Video ProDuction/CVC TV YearbookCVCTV is a hands-on class to promote twenty-first century communication skills in an authentic environment.
Students will be a part of a team that creates a weekly broadcast for the school to see. Students who apply to this class need to be self-motivated, driven, collaborative and creative. This class is fast-paced and deadline-based. Students plan, write, film and edit weekly segments that are compiled into a weekly episode which are shared with the school. To thrive in this class students have to be eager to learn all about video production, but do not have to have a strong background in this technical area. More important than technical skills, students need to be willing to develop all skills related to twenty-first century communication including but not limited to: contacting and conducting interviews with adult staff members, creating voice overs, being an anchor or on screen reporter, and more.
