Study SkillsThis class will give students who are performing at grade level the time to do homework and recreational reading
within the school day. This will be a self directed period for students who would like to have time to do work with a teacher present to assist them as needed. This class is not required and is an elective. |
InterventionStudents who are far below grade level standards in either Math or ELA based on the SBAC and teacher assessments
will be required to take an intervention class. In this intervention class they will receive one-on-one targeted intervention that speaks to their specific skill deficits. (Maximum of 15 students in the class) |
Spanish IWhy learn Spanish? You will learn an international language,have a better understanding of the world around you,
expand your future, expand your skills in communication. Students who pass with a C or better will get high school credit. Topics in Descubre I include greetings, in the classroom, family, hobbies, vacations, shopping, food and parties. |
Spanish IIPrerequisite: Spanish I or passing of the Spanish Placement Exam. In Spanish II we will expand on the vocabulary, grammar and cultural lessons learned in Spanish I. Students who pass Spanish II with a C or better will meet an A-G requirement before entering high school. Students that continue on the Spanish language pathway will be eligible to get their Seal of Biliteracy and take the AP Spanish IV class in high school. Exploratory 6This wheel gives students the opportunity to explore three different electives. The STEAM Lab portion is an
introduction to engineering and robotics. The objective of this course is to introduce students to critical thinking and problem solving strategies while exploring a wide variety of projects in our new makerspace. Students generate models in collaborative groups so that optimal designs can be achieved. Students will work hands-on in teams to design, build, and document their progress. The Digital Storytelling portion is an introduction to the WeVideo program and storytelling by creating individual and group projects. The objective of this course is to learn all the tools of the WeVideo program to create engaging videos through the use of pictures, videos and creative writing skills. Students will begin by creating individual projects leading up to a final group movie project. They will learn the beginning skills of video production that would give them the tools to advance their skills for 7th/8th grade video production or CVCTV. The Tourism Business class is an introduction to the Hospitality Industry with an emphasis in travel. Students will be learning about the travel industry becoming pseudo travel agents. They will budget, plan, and market trips around the world. Students will also be learning about various cultures and economies and the impact tourism has on these destination hot spots. |
Steam ExploratoryThis wheel gives students the opportunity to explore their creativity in three different electives. In STEAM Lab, students will explore hands-on and digital projects in engineering, robotics, design, 3-D printing, claymation, architecture and much more in our state-of-the-art Smart Lab . The objective of this course is to introduce students to critical thinking and problem solving strategies while exploring a wide variety of projects in our new makerspace. Students generate models in collaborative groups so that optimal designs can be achieved. The class focuses on the 7 habits of highly effective teens and the goal of this class is to develop student leaders that positively represent the voices of the school.

Creative ExploratoryThis wheel gives students the opportunity to explore three different STEAM topics: Video Production, Game Theory and STEAM Lab. Each class will last one trimester. In Video Productions students will build twenty first century communication skills while learning how to best tell many types of digital stories. The STEAM Lab portion is an introduction to engineering and robotics. The objective of this course is to introduce students to critical thinking and problem solving strategies while exploring a wide variety of projects in our new makerspace. Students generate models in collaborative groups so that optimal designs can be achieved. Students will work hands-on in teams to design, build, and document their progress. In Game Design and
Theory there will be an introduction on how video games are designed. This class will share introductory game strategy along with a high focus on internet safety and digital self awareness. The class will model introduction streams and introduce what is needed to produce livestreams. Game Design and TheoryThere will be an emphasis on how video games are designed, created, developed, built and written. We will explore the how and why about video games to be able to create our own. Additionally, we will explore the world of streaming and eSports. In this portion we will cover the concepts of game play, strategy for success, streaming, and shoutcasting. The class will produce fully functional streams for various platforms Ex: Twitch/Mixer with commentary. students to create authentic artifacts and engage with computer science as a medium for creativity, communication, problem solving, and fun. Computer Science is a highly interactive and collaborative introduction to the field of computer science, as framed within the broader pursuit of solving problems. You’ll practice using a problem solving process to address a series of puzzles, challenges, and real world scenarios. Next, you’ll learn how computers input, output, store, and process information to help humans solve problems. ASB: Student CouncilLeadership is a one-year elective course designed for students who want to get involved in the planning and implementation of Cielo Vista Charter activities and are seeking to enrich the spirit and culture of the school. Students
in this class will be assigned an officer position after reviewing applications. Students should expect to promote events, lead lunchtime activities, and help with after school activities as well. Students enrolled in Leadership will learn the following leadership skills: project planning and implementation, problem solving, public speaking, interpersonal communications, team building, working collaboratively, critical thinking, goal setting, and time management. Environmental Studies & EcologyHave you ever thought that we are not doing enough to help our planet? Are you worried about endangered species, habitat loss, or the threat of climate change? Do you want to know more about how to solve these environmental issues and affect change as a student scientist & activist? This elective will give you the tools to understand the science behind our natural world. Our class will be examining biological life and its relationship with the environment. From our studies, we will be taking actions to help our school and environment. We will also be taking field trips to the Living Desert, Sunnylands Monarch Program, & UC Riverside Palm Desert to learn about and discuss ecological
issues with leading scientists and conservation biologists in the Coachella Valley. The Coachella Valley and CVC Garden will be our outdoor laboratory and we will engage in school-wide projects to help make CVC a Green Ribbon School. Check us out on Facebook! |
Video ProductionVideo Production will promote twenty-first century communication skills through the use of digital storytelling.
Students will participate in a wide variety of project based learning units to develop collaboration, communication, critical thinking and creativity using video production. This class will require students to plan, write, film, and edit videos. Students will create public service announcements (PSA), documentaries and short fictional pieces. Students leaving this class will have a stronger sense of project development and time management as well as the vital communication tools needed to be a successful twenty-first century learner and employee. |
CVCTV -Video ProDuctionCVCTV is a hands-on class to promote twenty-first century communication skills in an authentic environment.
Students will be a part of a team that creates a weekly broadcast for the school to see. Students who apply to this class need to be self-motivated, driven, collaborative and creative. This class is fast-paced and deadline-based. Students plan, write, film and edit weekly segments that are compiled into a weekly episode which are shared with the school. To thrive in this class students have to be eager to learn all about video production, but do not have to have a strong background in this technical area. More important than technical skills, students need to be willing to develop all skills related to twenty-first century communication including but not limited to: contacting and conducting interviews with adult staff members, creating voice overs, being an anchor or on screen reporter, and more. Music ExploratoryMusic Exploratory explores all areas of the elements of music within National Arts Standards for 6-8th General Music and Ensembles. Instruments learned and applied are as follows: voice, various percussion, keyboard/piano, ukulele, and recorder; as well as a unit to discover all the orchestral instruments and choose one to learn for a period of time culminating in a performance assessment. Students will learn proper technique used on each instrument for unison and multiple part harmonies in addition to the skills of sight reading. They will practice performing and participating in an ensemble with 3 mandatory performances reflected in the gradebook; one per trimester, to showcase their work. Lessons/Assignments on composing and arranging will also be given with the choice of instrument used. Weekly assignments and monthly quizzes will assess music reading and singing ability. In addition, this course will explore musical theatre and production culminating in a full-length jr. musical production in the spring and stage managing/directing skills performed during winter programs.
